Hiking around Lake Garda
Explore the area around colago
Around Lake Garda there are countless hiking trails that lead to wonderful viewpoints, where you can let yourself be overwhelmed again and again by the magnificent lake panorama.
Breathtaking views
The olive groves, vineyards and the wide meadows and fields of the gently rolling landscape will immerse you in the enchanting Mediterranean world along the lake. Due to the hilly nature of the landscape, the western shore impresses with many hiking trails of various degrees of difficulty, such as the tour to the “Monte Pizzocolo” or a hike to the Monte Castello di Gaino, not far from Toscolano Maderno.
Where to go? We have prepared two tour suggestions for you:
On the Monte Pizzocolo (1.581 m)
You can reach the highest mountain in the southwest of Lake Garda from Sanico, a hamlet above Toscolano Maderno. The summit can either be climbed easily but steeply, or more demanding via the south-east ridge and a few climbing sections. From Sanico you take a short bumpy road to the sign “Malga Valle, Pizzocolo 11-5” for the easy tour or “Pizzocolo Cresta Sud” for the more difficult route, where you park your car. Regardless of which hike you choose, once you reach the summit, you can expect a unique view of Lake Garda.
We therefore recommend that you pack enough provisions for a long rest with this fantastic panorama.
Walking time ascent: 2:30h
Walking time descent: 2:00h

To the Monte Castello di gaino (866 M)
This easy to moderately difficult hike starts below the church of Navazzo, a small village above Gargnano. A sign with the inscription “221” marks the start of the hike and you follow the forest path until you reach a stone with the inscription “Monte Castello”. From here the trail branches off to the left and climbs up a mountain path. A few wire ropes have to be overcome before you reach the summit.
Here you can look out over Lake Garda, enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the opposite shore and enjoy a delicious snack.
